Hikoso-cho is an area stretching along the Asano River north of Kanazawa Castle, known during the Edo period for its rows of samurai residences belonging to the Kaga domain. Here, in a tatami-mat room, you can experience kintsugi. On the wall hangs a scroll painting by instructor Momo's grandmother. You might ask about the meaning of the poem written on it during your session. Enjoy kintsugi in the uniquely spacious, relaxed atmosphere of a traditional Japanese room.
You can enjoy the main steps of kintsugi as shown in the photo below. You'll also make the materials used in each step yourself. Discover which process interests you most through this authentic hands-on experience!
The process from the initial steps to the final application of gold is like climbing a mountain. Work with the image of kintsugi, building each step one by one.
After explaining the process, I'll show you an actual sample. Can you do the same movements?
Don't forget to breathe!
Time slips away as I hold the brush and apply lacquer. I focus my awareness on the brush tip as I apply the lacquer. During this time, we deliberately refrain from speaking and simply watch over you, so you may enjoy the silence.
The kintsugi pieces crafted with focus hold memories of your journey. Take home the memories you made in Kanazawa too. We provide small dishes and other compact vessels for easy transport. We'll pack your memories together with your nameplate.
